A DIY Solution to Toilet Overflow Problems, Install an Overflow Proof Toilet

Bathtubs and bathroom sinks have had overflow protection since the very beginning, but not the toilet. If you are like most people, you have probably wondered why that was so, especially after an overflow that left you tip toeing through human waste to retrieve your Plumber's Helper from the garage. My son, with seven children who were constantly trying to flush toys, partially eaten apples, or some other toilet clogging object found himself in this situation more often than he cares to remember. My grand kids are now older and no longer try to flush things that will not flush, but occasional overflows still occur in his household, just as they do for you in yours. The good news is that now there is a way to prevent toilet overflows no matter what the cause.

The Overflow Proof Toilet.

Necessity is the mother of all invention.” Most learned people ascribe that saying to Aesop who used it in his story, “The Crow and the Pitcher.” Other attribute its creation to Plato, but Aesop's use of the expression predates Plato's by over 100 years. What has that got to do with the invention of an overflow proof toilet except for the fact that Larry Trowbridge and Pat Stack, who were in the hotel business, saw the need for one and invented one. They had witnessed the serious damage caused by toilet overflows, not only to the room in which they occurred, but to the rooms immediately below those rooms. After one especially costly overflow incident they formed the Penguin Toilet Company to invent and manufacture the world's first overflow proof toilet.

How the overflow system works.

Overflow protection is provided by a two stage system. Primary overflow protection is provided by three large holes located at the rear of the bowl near the top and under the rim. The water entering these holes is then passed out to the drain through a secondary trap which bypasses the clogged/blocked primary drain. If the three primary system overflow protection holes are also obstructed, which is highly unlikely, the secondary system kicks in. the secondary overflow protection system consist of a series of smaller holes, equally spaced around the underside of the toilet bowl's lip. These holes receive the water and the pass it out into the grain through the secondary trap.

No Special Plumbing Needed.

The really great thing about this overflow proof toilet is that it does not require any special plumbing. It is an easy upgrade for even the first time DIY plumber because all you do is remove the old toilet and bolt the Penguin Overflow Toilet in place. The toilet is available in seven different models so there will be one that will be the perfect replacement for your current, overflow prone, toilet. As you might have guessed, this toilet is more expensive than a conventional toilet, but it does come with a five-year Limited Warranty. If any part of the toilet malfunctions during those five years and company inspections indicates that the problem was caused by a manufacturers defects, you will receive full reimbursement for the cost of the repairs.
